He stressed that the danger posed by Moscow is becoming increasingly unmistakable and called for a significant boost in Germany’s military capabilities. Breuer argued that Europe now faces a situation demanding a serious and urgent approach to defense.
In an interview with the BBC, he noted that Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine has already strained its military resources. However, by 2029, he believes Moscow could be capable of launching a large-scale war against NATO.
“What we see, what we are confronted with, is a threat from Russia,” Breuer said.
Germany’s Readiness for Future Challenges
He further emphasized that Germany must prepare for the challenges that may lie ahead.
“We have to be ready for this,” he insisted, urging proactive measures in defense planning. His remarks underline the pressing need to address security concerns across the European continent.
Breuer’s statements reflect growing anxiety among European nations about security amid strained relations with Russia. The prospect of a future military conflict highlights the critical importance of strengthening defensive capabilities, especially for Germany, which plays a central role in regional security. These comments are also likely to shape political decisions in Europe regarding defense spending and NATO cooperation in the face of emerging security threats.
