Buckwheat Prices in Kyiv Hit 80 UAH Per Kilo: What’s Driving the Surge.
Buckwheat Price Trends in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: A rush on buckwheat has swept through Kyiv, with prices climbing to 80 Ukrainian hryvnias per kilogram. Supermarkets across the capital are seeing continued cost increases, leaving mostly higher-priced packaged goods on the shelves.
As of March 22, buckwheat from the brand 'Svoia Liniia' in 4x125g/500g packs is priced at 45.90 UAH, which equates to 91.80 UAH per kilogram. The 'Attual' brand is selling for 80 UAH per kilogram, while 900 grams of unsteamed groats can be purchased for 65.90 UAH.
Buckwheat Price Dynamics
Notably, the average cost of buckwheat in March 2026 exceeded 51–54 UAH per kilogram. In January of the same year, it stood at 47.87 UAH per kilogram, and in spring 2025, it was around 33.02 UAH. These figures highlight a significant price hike for one of Ukraine’s staple foods.
Several factors may be fueling the rise, including shifts in agricultural policy, currency exchange rate fluctuations, or reduced production volumes. Amid economic instability and high inflation, consumers are stockpiling popular goods, which in turn creates market shortages.
Ongoing monitoring of buckwheat and other essential food prices remains crucial for understanding market trends and potential shifts in consumer behavior.
