Main Mistakes of the Ukrainian Leadership

According to ТСН: Yaroslav Hrytsak, historian and professor at the Ukrainian Catholic University, identified the main mistakes of the Ukrainian government over the past year. In his opinion, the current strategy allows Ukraine to endure but is insufficient for a complete victory.

The professor shared his thoughts in an interview where he focused on the errors of the leadership amidst the war.

“I will speak very generally: war is a threat, but at the same time an opportunity to change the trajectory of the country's development. If the government cannot change the country during the war, it is swept away either by a foreign army or its own people,”

— emphasized Hrytsak. He highlighted the importance of political will, noting that many positive changes occurred at the beginning of the war, but there is currently a certain rollback.

“So far, this government is working at a solid three. This is enough to endure but not enough to win,”

— he assessed.

Hrytsak also stressed the need for President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the government to stop communicating with citizens as if they were children, “as if we know little and understand little, and therefore we should not be frightened.”

“I am still waiting for Zelensky to say what Churchill said: ‘We must fight because we have no choice, the price of war is high, and I cannot promise anything except blood, sweat, and tears, but I promise that we will not lose it,’

— concluded Hrytsak.

He also expressed an opinion on the minimal chances of holding elections in Ukraine during the war, given the technical difficulties and insufficient public support. Hrytsak noted that organizing voting at the front and abroad is extremely difficult, and most citizens oppose elections until the situation stabilizes completely.

Hrytsak's analysis underscores the critical challenges facing the Ukrainian government during the war. The professor's words highlight the issues of the effectiveness of management decisions and the importance of communication with society. In times of uncertainty, it is important to consider the opinions of experts to find optimal ways to overcome the crisis and ensure stability.
