California Governor Labels Trump as Putin’s ‘Puppy’ Following Oil Sanctions Removal.
California Governor’s Remarks
According to TSN.ua: California Governor Gavin Newsom has sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump, calling him a 'puppy' of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This outburst comes after the U.S. lifted sanctions on Russian oil amid its ongoing conflict with Iran. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that the decision to remove the sanctions is temporary in nature.
Lifting of Russian Oil Sanctions
The sanctions relief allows the U.S. government to officially load and sell Russian oil that was shipped before March 12, 2026. To implement this, Temporary License No. 134 was issued by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Permits granted under this license remain valid until April 11, 2026. This policy shift marks a notable change in Washington’s approach to energy trade with Moscow.
Scott Bessent noted that 'the decision is temporary in nature,' highlighting the volatile situation and the potential for changes in U.S. policy regarding Russian oil.
As a result, the lifting of sanctions has sparked varied reactions across political circles, particularly from California’s governor.
These developments underscore the complex political landscape in the United States, where foreign policy decisions—especially those involving Russia—can have serious repercussions for domestic political dynamics. Governor Newsom’s comments highlight the growing tension between different branches of government and political leaders, while also questioning the Trump administration’s strategy in international relations. The removal of sanctions on Russian oil could also impact global energy markets and relationships with U.S. allies.
