Russian Forces Strike Kharkiv Region, Damaging Schools and Injuring Civilians.
Strikes Target Kharkiv and Surrounding Area
According to UATV: Russian military forces launched a combined assault on the city of Kharkiv and the wider region overnight, employing a 'Tornado-S' multiple rocket launcher system. The attack resulted in civilian casualties and damage to educational facilities. Three individuals were injured, including a 62-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, both of whom required hospitalization. This northeastern Ukrainian region, which borders Russia, has endured frequent shelling since the full-scale invasion began.
Extensive Damage to Educational Infrastructure
The attack caused particularly severe consequences in Kharkiv's Industrial District, where a city lyceum and a kindergarten building were damaged. A fire broke out at the lyceum but was promptly extinguished. The strike blew out 270 windows and damaged more than 20 classrooms. In a separate incident in the village of Mykolaivka, Chuhuiv district, an attack was carried out using a 'Geran-2' drone. Vera Chubynska noted that the overall situation remains difficult. The assault is part of a wider escalation, as Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 165 strike drones on the night of January 27, intensifying the conflict and worsening the humanitarian crisis.
This latest attack represents a continuation of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, now in its second year. The targeting of schools highlights the severe impact on education in the region, while the humanitarian situation deteriorates due to constant shelling. Local and national authorities continue working to restore infrastructure and provide aid to victims, though the escalation of violence complicates these recovery efforts.
