Ukraine won its first gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in the saber fencing competition. Fencer Olga Kharlan shared her impressions of the victory of the Ukrainian team in a comment for "Suspilne Sport".

We can't realize it. I think we'll realize it a bit later. We know one thing: we raised the Ukrainian flag higher, sang the anthem. This medal is for our defenders. We are grateful to our families for their support. We are shocked – said Kharlan.

She also said that before the match with the Italians in the 1/4 final of the Olympics, the team was very nervous and shared her nerves.

By my and the girls' fencing, it was visible that we were a bit nervous. And when we already won, we told ourselves: the fencing is starting – commented Kharlan on the victory in the 1/4 final.

Before the final match with the Korean team, the Ukrainians were relaxed.

We told ourselves that we could do it. Not that we had to – we didn't want to wind ourselves up. We just wanted to fence. Honestly, before the start of the match, we were relaxed – added Kharlan.

We remind you that the Ukrainian saber fencers defeated the South Korean team in the final of the Olympic Games. This is the first gold medal for Ukraine at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Olga Kharlan, Alina Komashchuk, Olena Kravatska, and Yulia Bakastova represented Ukraine at a high level in the team tournament. The final was evenly matched, but thanks to Olga Kharlan's superb final bout, Ukraine won with a score of 45-42.

After winning the gold medal in the team saber at the 2024 Olympics, Olga Kharlan made a historic contribution to Ukrainian sports.

Never before had a Ukrainian athlete won more than five medals at the Olympic Games. Thanks to the bronze in individual competitions and the gold in team competitions, Olga Kharlan became the holder of the most Olympic medals – six.
