Rescuers rushed to help as a group tried to pull the children from the wet sand.

One of the rescuers jumped into the hole in an attempt to pull the boys out, while another built an impromptu dam to divert the water.

After several tense minutes, the boys were finally freed.

Rescuer Mark Herman noted that such incidents happen more often than many think, as even shallow holes can collapse.

“When this sand gets wet, it becomes heavy. They were practically buried up to their waists. They couldn’t get out by themselves,”
he told Fox 11.

“It’s possible these children had some part of their body above the sand,”
he added.
“But when children dig holes, if they are too deep and the sand collapses, it can be very dangerous,”
Herman emphasized.

He also stressed:

“This is a reminder that the beach can be beautiful but also dangerous.”

Vacationer Brittany Good said she was shocked by the incident that occurred in August, and she expressed her relief upon learning the boys were safe.
