Honda unveiled the racing Prelude GT500: first tests this week

According to Korrespondent.net: Honda Racing officially presented the prototype Prelude GT500, developed to participate in the Super GT series in 2026, according to Carscoops. This car will replace the Civic Type R GT500 model, which will compete against the Toyota GR Supra GT500 and Nissan Z Nismo GT500 starting in 2024.

Debut and characteristics of the new racing car

The first tests of the Prelude GT500 will take place this Wednesday. Although technical details have not yet been revealed, it is known that the racing version of the model will differ significantly from the production coupe. The standard Prelude 2026 is equipped with a hybrid powertrain featuring a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, two electric motors, and a continuously variable transmission delivering 200 hp. However, the racing modification will focus on achieving maximum performance.

Design and new technologies

The exterior of the Prelude GT500 is radically different from the civilian version. The car features bare carbon panels, a wide body, and aggressive aerodynamic elements such as a splitter, side spoilers, and a large rear wing on winch struts. The car is also equipped with Rays wheels with Bridgestone tires and braking systems from AP.

This year, the Civic Type R GT500 was unable to compete on par with the Toyota GR Supra, prompting Honda to focus on the completely new Prelude to regain its competitiveness. Starting in 2026, new rules in Super GT will provide teams with more freedom in aerodynamic solutions for the lower body.
