Government Reaction
The Nepalese government deployed troops to restore order, as the situation in the streets spiraled out of control. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli announced his resignation, stating that this was a necessary step towards creating 'additional efforts towards a constitutional political resolution.'
“I resign from my position as Prime Minister, acting in accordance with Article 77(1)a of the Constitution,” he announced.
The authorities are still trying to control the situation after several days of unrest marked by frequent clashes and violence in the streets.
