Consequences of the Attack

It is known that one Ukrainian sailor died and several were injured as a result of the attack on the 180-foot ship 'Simferopol'.

The ship was struck in the estuary of the Danube River shortly after midnight, leading to its capsizing while 29 crew members were on board.

Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk confirmed:

“We confirm the fact of the strike on the ship, we are currently dealing with the consequences of the attack. Most crew members are safe. Unfortunately, one crew member died, several were injured.”

According to reports, the strike was launched from Crimea. This is the first case in the protracted war when Russia destroyed a Ukrainian military ship using a maritime drone.

Ukraine's Response

In response, Ukraine struck at Russian ships to stop their further attacks.

Ukraine defended itself by damaging one of the Buyan-M class ships in the Sea of Azov Armed Forces of Ukraine

Ukrainian troops struck a Russian Buyan-M class corvette in the Taman Bay near Kerch, resulting in damage to the ship's radar.

Afterwards, the Russian ship was forced to leave the combat patrol area. Ukrainian military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko noted:

“While the ship did not sustain fatal damage, it will be out of commission for a long time for combat missions.”

These exchanges of strikes take place against the backdrop of international condemnation of Putin’s actions, particularly due to the recent attack on Kyiv that resulted in at least 18 deaths.

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called these attacks “sabotage of peace,” emphasizing that “Putin is killing children and civilians. This bloody chaos must end.”

French President Emmanuel Macron added:

“The idea of peace from Russia is terror and barbarism.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also emphasized that the Kremlin has once again shown its true face.

This incident underscores the escalation of conflict in the region, as both sides' actions become increasingly aggressive. In response to the attacks, Ukrainian forces have intensified their actions, while the Russian side appears to continue adhering to an aggressive strategy, raising concerns in the international community.
