The moment Sagar attempted to shoot the video went viral. It shows the young man standing on a rock with the waterfall roaring around him. A witness tried to throw him a rope, but the strong current pulled him into the water.
The tragedy occurred due to a sudden rise in river Mushkund's water level due to heavy rains. Authorities launched a massive search involving police, firefighters, local emergency response teams, and residents.
On Sunday evening, Sagar's backpack with filming equipment was found. The young man ran a YouTube channel with nearly 500 subscribers, sharing his photos and the culture of Odisha.
This incident has raised concerns about safety at Duduma waterfall, as many worry that strong currents, especially during rains, pose serious risks to visitors. The waterfall, standing 500 feet tall, is famous for its popularity among tourists.
Days later, on Tuesday, heavy rains in northern India caused landslides and sudden floods that killed over 30 people near a Hindu temple in the Kashmir region.
The tragedy of Sagar Tudu sadly serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by thrill-seekers and tourists. Authorities hope to enhance safety on popular tourist routes, considering risks that may arise during downpours. During the monsoon season, it is crucial for tourists to exercise caution and beware of dangerous areas.
