Croatia Steps In as Alternative to Druzhba: Oil Supply for Hungary and Slovakia.
Croatia Ready to Supply Oil to Hungary and Slovakia
According to UATV: On March 19, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković announced that his country could provide oil to Hungary and Slovakia through its own pipeline network, offering a substitute for the Druzhba pipeline. He emphasized that Croatia can ensure energy security and uninterrupted oil deliveries to both nations, even if the Druzhba route becomes inoperable. This development comes amid ongoing efforts to reduce reliance on Russian energy infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe.
Meanwhile, a €90 billion credit package for Ukraine remains stalled, as EU leaders failed to secure its approval. They attempted to persuade Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of the need to support Ukraine and maintain stable energy supplies across the region.
Shifting Energy Routes
Croatia’s proposal may signal a broader realignment of energy corridors in Central and Eastern Europe, potentially curbing dependence on Russian energy sources. Amid shifting energy policies and geopolitical tensions, such moves could prove pivotal for regional stability and for strengthening the energy autonomy of EU member states.
