Scandal in the Kyiv Shelter: Mother with Child Denied Access to Room.
According to ТСН: In one of the capital's shelters during a night shelling, a tense situation arose: a woman with a two-year-old child could not enter a separate room arranged for rest. The incident was recorded on video, which sparked outrage on social media. The police and representatives of the local administration were called to the scene.
Conflict During Shelling
The situation occurred in the basement of a five-story building that is used as a shelter. A resident of a neighboring building, Oleksandra, along with her two-year-old daughter Lukiia, was hiding from the shelling as their own shelter was unavailable. The room was equipped with separate zones, but this was done independently.
According to Oleksandra, the woman with the frightened child stepped away from the area where the shelling was heard and tried to enter another room. At the door, they were greeted by a woman who claimed that she only lets in acquaintances.
“I asked: can we please come in too? She replied that this shelter is for us, and I will not let you in, goodbye. People are sitting here in the corridor, it's not possible to pass. Why are there 4 people in a room designed for 15?”
Oleksandra filmed the conflict between the women, during which her child was crying loudly.
Video fragment: “Why are you closed off for yourselves? — Look at this fool. — I am not a fool. Open the doors. This is civil protection for all people. — Don’t shout, go to hell. Sweetheart. You little coward.”
The 'Commandant's' Position of the Shelter
The woman who refused to let Oleksandra in is named Tetiana Mykolayivna. She confirmed that she did not let the woman with the child in, explaining her actions by saying that she, along with her neighbors, equipped the shelter using furniture found in garbage bins.
“We repaired all of this. She wanted to sit here on the couch, she was shouting! Where should I get you that couch?”
Government Reaction and Consequences
Information about the conflict reached the Podil district state administration. The head of the municipal safety department, Dmytro Yakymchuk, noted that the shelter is designed for 600 people and was reconstructed with budget funds, but the furniture and doors in some rooms were installed independently.
“A decision was made at the instruction of the military administration: all compartments in the basement will be dismantled so that everyone who wishes can enter and settle in this shelter,” says Dmytro Yakymchuk.
To prevent the overnight stay of the homeless, the shelter will be fitted with special locks that will automatically open in the event of an alarm signal. The police also reported that preventive talks were held with Tetiana Mykolayivna.
Additionally, the pensioner who communicated with Oleksandra inappropriately received administrative punishment for “petty hooliganism.”
Despite this, Tetiana Mykolayivna believes the truth is on her side, while Oleksandra hopes that such conflicts will not arise again.
