New charges for IKEA's Click and Collect service

According to The Sun: IKEA has introduced a charge for its Click and Collect service – this change may cause dissatisfaction among customers.

Customers now need to pay £2 for online orders to collect their items in-store, but this service remains free for participants of the IKEA Family loyalty program.

This change was noticed by an angry customer who wrote online:

“Where did this charge for using Click and Collect come from? I understand there are costs involved, but this is just not serious.”

IKEA explained that the charge for non-members was introduced to ensure financial stability in delivery and order collection.

Collection and payment options

IKEA offers several collection options, including in-store pickup, as well as collection from selected Tesco parking lots, DPD points, and collection boxes.

The company notes that IKEA Family members can receive all Click and Collect options for free, but they need to spend a certain amount to qualify.

  • Members must spend over £100 for collection from the Tesco site;
  • More than £60 for collection from DPD points (which are located in convenient stores or post offices);
  • More than £100 for collection from a box.

Standard pickup charges from various points range from £2 to £5.

By joining the IKEA Family club, you can accumulate points for rewards such as discounts on delivery or meals, as well as discounts on certain products. To take advantage of the benefits, users need to create an online account at ikea.com.

The company stated:

“We believe in price transparency and continue to invest in our services to expand delivery options and pickup locations, providing our customers with more choice and convenience.”

This is not the first time the company has sparked outrage by introducing new delivery or Click and Collect charges. For instance, recently Morrisons introduced a £3 charge for customers who order under £40 for home delivery.

Briefly about IKEA

This change came after the closure of the planning and ordering point at the Stockport Merseyway shopping center on June 16.

The store in Greater Manchester was smaller than usual and specialized in the planning of kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms.

IKEA reported that the decision to close was made after

“valuable lessons” were learned, as the company discovered that customers wanted a different retail experience, including more Click and Collect options and returns.

But there is also good news: the brand opened a new store in Churchill Square shopping center in Brighton. This store occupied the space of the former Debenhams, which had been vacant since 2021.

The Brighton store is the third location in the city center in the UK after Oxford Street and Hammersmith in London.
