SpaceX Shifts Priority to Lunar City Project, Musk Announces 10-Year Goal.
SpaceX's Ambitious Plans for a Lunar City
According to Novyny.live: Elon Musk has declared that SpaceX is now prioritizing the construction of a city on the Moon, a project he believes could be completed in under a decade. He made this announcement on February 9 via the social media platform X. Musk explained that the company has redirected its focus to this lunar endeavor because its timeline appears more feasible compared to the more distant goal of colonizing Mars.
According to Musk, establishing a settlement on Mars would take over 20 years, and the company will only reconsider that project in 5 to 7 years. He noted that a journey to Mars is only possible during planetary alignments, which occur every 26 months, and the trip itself would last six months. In contrast, launch windows to the Moon open every 10 days, with a travel time of just two days.
Lunar Tourism and Infrastructure Development
SpaceX also aims to build a hotel on the Moon by 2032, highlighting the company's broader ambitions for space development. Elon Musk emphasized:
'SpaceX has already shifted its focus to building a developed city on the Moon, as we can potentially achieve this in less than 10 years.' - Elon Musk
These plans signal a significant intensification of SpaceX's efforts in space exploration and the potential creation of permanent infrastructure on Earth's satellite. This pivot to the Moon represents a strategic move, leveraging its proximity to accelerate human presence beyond Earth. The shorter travel time and more frequent launch opportunities make a lunar city a potentially landmark achievement for SpaceX and the broader space industry, serving as a crucial stepping stone for future interplanetary colonization.
