Dubai’s First Commercial Vertiport Is Now Certified

According to ITC.ua — Техно: Dubai has achieved a global milestone with the certification of VDX, the world’s first purpose-built commercial vertiport designed for electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL). The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) granted the certification after a thorough review of the facility’s infrastructure, physical layout, and safety protocols. This marks a critical step forward for the emirate’s planned network of air taxis.

Situated near Dubai International Airport, VDX has the capacity to handle up to 170,000 passengers annually. This development underscores the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to advancing aviation technology. The GCAA, established in 1996, plays a key role in regulating and ensuring the safety of emerging air transport systems.

The Future of Aviation in the UAE

“Certifying the world’s first specially built commercial vertiport is a historic achievement for the UAE and a defining moment for the future of aviation.”

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA official

This event not only highlights the country’s technological progress but also opens up new possibilities for air taxi development. Aqeel Al Zarouni, another GCAA representative, added: “The certification of VDX demonstrates the UAE’s ability to create a regulatory framework for new aviation technologies.” These factors suggest that air taxis will soon be operating in Dubai, potentially transforming urban transport by reducing congestion and improving mobility.

This initiative is part of a broader UAE strategy to drive innovation in transportation. With the launch of air taxis, Dubai aims to become a pioneer in new forms of mobility that could ease pressure on ground transport. The certification of VDX may also serve as a model for other cities worldwide considering the integration of eVTOL into their transport infrastructure.
