Indexing from March 1 and recalculation from April 1: what pensioners need to know.

The Pension Fund of Ukraine is changing the pension calculation rules for working pensioners from April 1, 2025, who have unaccounted work experience.
'Pension indexing from March 1 and recalculation from April 1 are two completely different things. We are currently talking about pensioners who continued or continue to work and have unaccounted work experience,' emphasizes the expert.
The recalculation concerns pensioners who continue to work and have accumulated insurance experience after the pension was assigned or the last recalculation. It is important to understand that this recalculation differs from the pension indexing carried out from March 1, 2025.
The recalculation is carried out based on two parameters: work experience and salary. The review based on work experience happens in any case, while the salary review is only done if it is beneficial for the pensioner.
Many pensioners do not notice changes even after adding work experience. 'If the basic pension amount is small and supplements to the minimum payment are established, then a slight change in the work experience coefficient does not always lead to significant changes,' explains the expert.
The recalculation is carried out automatically from April 1, but pensioners will only receive actual payments considering the recalculation in June.
Experience from previous years shows that the average increase was about 200 hryvnias. The recalculation was conducted for 600 thousand people out of 2.8 million working pensioners, while only 400 thousand received the actual increase.
If a pensioner wants to speed up the recalculation process, they can submit a request after two years from the date of pension assignment or the last recalculation.
It has also become known whether there will be enough money for pension indexing and whether payments may be delayed.
