Israel launches new ground offensive on Gaza: what is happening

According to The Sun: Israel has launched a new ground offensive, aiming to seize the city of Gaza as part of efforts to eliminate Hamas and eradicate the terrorist organization once and for all.

Israeli military announced the start of the operation, warning one million Palestinians who remain in the area to relocate to "humanitarian zones".

This new attack, reported by Axios, marks a significant milestone in the escalating conflict that has been ongoing for nearly two years.

The offensive follows weeks of intense airstrikes on the city of Gaza, targeting Hamas positions, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Amazing photos show destroyed buildings and flattened high-rises as a result of the strikes.

According to the IDF, 300,000 Palestinians have left Gaza, but the military has urged those who remain to also avoid danger.

The international community is concerned about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, putting pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu, who aims to destroy Hamas and free the hostages.

Recent events may lead to a significant increase in casualties - tanks entered the city late on Monday after targeted strikes earlier that day.

In the backdrop of the recent attack

“Hamas is moving hostages to open areas to use them as human shields,”
– noted Donald Trump.

“I hope Hamas leaders realize what they are leading themselves into if they do this,”
– he added.

“This is human brutality that few have ever seen.”

Trump also emphasized:

“Do not let this happen, or all 'bets' are off. RELEASE ALL HOSTAGES NOW!”

Meanwhile, Netanyahu thanked Trump for his

“unyielding support for Israel's fight against Hamas and the release of all our hostages.”

According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the offensive, Israeli forces have killed about 65,000 Palestinians, most of whom are women and children.

Prolonged misery began after the notorious Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

Despite Netanyahu's authorization for the Monday operation, several senior advisors from the IDF and Mossad warned him that it could endanger the lives of hostages, lead to direct military governance over two million residents of Gaza, or even fail to eliminate Hamas.

The new attack occurred just hours after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's meeting with Netanyahu, where they discussed the war.

Rubio noted:

“We must remember who we are dealing with – these are people who have dedicated their lives to violence and barbarism.”

The diplomat also informed the Israeli Prime Minister that Trump supports the ground operation but wishes for it to end as soon as possible, according to Axios.

Approximately 20 hostages remain under Hamas control in the city of Gaza.

Last week, Netanyahu warned countries that harbored terrorists:

“Expel them or bring them to justice.”

He also criticized countries that condemn Israel for its actions, including Doha and Qatar, stating:

“They should be ashamed.”

The strike against a U.S. ally negotiating peace in Gaza raised fears of an expansion of the conflict in the Middle East and a derailment of peace talks.
