Israeli tanks crossed the border with Syria - media.
Israeli tanks crossed the border into Syria after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, reports The Times of Israel.
The tanks entered the buffer zone near Quneitra and began artillery shelling. Media also reports that the Israel Defense Forces plans to tighten restrictions for some cities near the border with Syria.
It was also noted the intention to declare a closed military zone around the border lands, where checkpoints are already being established near the Golan Heights. Civilians will be prohibited from accessing these areas.
Syrian rebels claim they have captured the capital Damascus and overthrown Assad's regime, but there is no official confirmation of this.
Assad's presidential plane disappeared from radar in the Tartus area. It is currently unknown whether he was on board and what happened to him. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali stated his readiness to transfer power to the opposition and collaborate with the new leadership.
The state television has already announced the overthrow of Assad's regime.
Background
The situation in northern Syria escalated in late November when rebels destroyed a large number of Assad's soldiers and his allies. On November 28, around 200 fighters from 'Hezbollah', Iranian IRGC military personnel, as well as Syrian and Russian soldiers were killed. Among the dead was Iranian Brigadier General Qayoumars Pour Hashemi.
On November 30, rebels leading the opposition coalition 'Hayat Tahrir al-Sham' captured Syria's second-largest city - Aleppo. There were also reports of shelling various cities and villages. Russian military and diplomats began retreating from Damascus.
Assad's wife and their children also fled to Russia.
