Free ID Card Processing in Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: In Ukraine, certain groups of citizens can obtain an ID card without any cost. The government has introduced benefits for document processing, making passport acquisition more accessible for eligible individuals.

Eligible Categories for Free ID Cards

  • Citizens who turn 14 and are applying for a passport for the first time are exempt from paying the ID card processing fee.
  • Individuals who were held in places of detention as a result of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine can receive an ID card for free. Those released from captivity qualify for a fee waiver if they submit an application and proof of their release within one year.
  • Citizens who have lost their passport or had it stolen are also eligible for discounts when applying for an ID card.

It is worth noting that local communities may cover part of the costs for processing or replacing documents, further enhancing accessibility for the population.

Additionally, Ukrainians should be aware that failing to update photos in passports can result in a fine of up to 51 hryvnias. For adult citizens, obtaining a Polish passport costs 140 zlotys, approximately 1,700 hryvnias. Thus, the benefits for ID card processing in Ukraine represent an important step in safeguarding citizens' rights and easing access to essential documents.

Introducing free ID card processing for specific population groups is a crucial initiative that strengthens human rights and social justice in Ukraine.

This measure can significantly improve access to basic documents for vulnerable categories, such as youth and those affected by war. Amid economic challenges, these efforts also help maintain social stability and support citizens' integration into society.
