EU's Kallas Warns of Unabated Russian Aggression and Shared Threat from Iranian Drones.
International Support for Ukraine
According to UATV: During a briefing in Warsaw on March 4, Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stressed the critical importance of continuing support for Ukraine, despite concerning developments in the Middle East. She stated that
“nothing indicates a decrease in Russian aggression. The Kremlin's maximalist demands remain unchanged”— a declaration underscoring the persistent threat from Russia and the necessity of international aid for Ukraine. This stance comes as Western allies debate long-term security commitments for Kyiv.
Concerns Voiced by Poland
At the same briefing, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski expressed his own apprehensions. He pointed out that
“there is a threat common to both these wars, and that is the 'Shahed' drone”— a statement highlighting that the danger from Iranian drones extends beyond the conflict in Ukraine to the situation in the Middle East, representing a shared security challenge.
Sikorski emphasized that Russia has launched 57,000 Iranian 'Shahed' drones against Ukraine, illustrating the severe scale of the threat. The importance of international support and cooperation in the face of such challenges is critical for ensuring stability in the region. The use of these relatively low-cost drones has become a defining feature of modern asymmetric warfare.
These remarks reflect the international community's growing concern over security in both Europe and the Middle East. The situation demands careful monitoring and proactive measures from EU nations and other partners of Ukraine, as Russian aggression and the deployment of Iranian military technology could have far-reaching consequences for global security. Continued support for Ukraine and coordinated international efforts are vital to prevent further escalation and strengthen regional stability.
