Poland's Offer to Help Upgrade Ukraine's Fighter Jets

According to UATV: Poland is willing to assist Ukraine in modernizing its MiG-29 fighter aircraft. However, the costs for this upgrade must be covered either by Ukraine itself or by allied nations. This statement came from Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, who emphasized his country's readiness to collaborate on this initiative.

'If Ukraine considers the modernization necessary, we can help, but the expenses must be borne by the Ukrainian side or partner states.' Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz

Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that the funding question remains a critical factor in the process of upgrading military equipment.

It is worth recalling that the transfer of MiG-29s to Ukraine has yet to be formally resolved. Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski previously stated that Russia is attempting to exploit historical tensions between Ukraine and Poland. This could affect the international context and bilateral relations in defense cooperation.

Poland continues to uphold its commitment to supporting Ukraine's defense efforts, but it is essential that all financial aspects are clarified with Ukraine and its allies. In line with the principle of reciprocity, Poland aims to ensure effective collaboration in this area.

This announcement reaffirms Poland's ongoing military support for Ukraine amid escalating threats from Russia. The funding of MiG-29 modernization is a critical issue, as without adequate investment, Ukraine cannot fulfill its defense ambitions. It also highlights the need for closer coordination between Ukraine and its international partners to maintain military readiness in the face of modern challenges.
