According to FREEДOM: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during his first visit to Kyiv today, August 24, announced that his country will provide Ukraine with armed support worth $1 billion, reports FREEdom.

During the celebrations for Ukraine's Independence Day, the Prime Minister of Canada stated that Canada will stand by Ukraine in its fight for independence, sovereignty, and freedom. Carney also announced that next month, Canada will send drones, ammunition, and armored vehicles to Ukraine.

'At the G7 summit in June, Canada promised an additional $2 billion in military aid. Today I proudly announce that more than $1 billion of this amount will go towards strengthening your core weapons by supplying drones, ammunition, and armored vehicles, which will arrive next month. We will also provide tens of millions for emergency medical assistance, the creation of bomb shelters, and the strengthening of local democracy in Ukraine, including efforts to combat cyberattacks,' he said.

Prime Minister Carney emphasized that true peace and security for Ukraine are only possible with reliable guarantees, as the Russian dictator has repeatedly violated his promises, and he is responsible for thousands of deaths and the suffering of millions.

'He (Putin) started this terrible aggression, which has taken millions of lives. He terrorizes your skies, threatens your cities, and has kidnapped your children. But Putin can be stopped: the Russian economy is weakening, he is becoming increasingly isolated, while our alliance is growing stronger, more determined, and united,' said Mark Carney.

President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to Mark Carney for his visit on Ukraine's Independence Day, noting that Canada was one of the first to recognize Ukraine's sovereignty 34 years ago.

'Today, Mark's visit is not limited to mere symbolism; we have a very busy meeting. There are important signed documents, clear agreements. An action plan for the implementation of the security agreement between our countries, as well as an agreement on administrative assistance in customs matters, was signed at the level of our ministers, and an agreement on drone production. This is important, this is a priority, and you all know this,' emphasized the head of the Ukrainian state.

Zelensky also noted Canada's leadership in sanction efforts against the Russian Federation.

'It often happens that Canada is the first to impose sanctions against certain entities, and then the world follows suit. We have already practically prepared a new level of such work — Ukraine has synchronized Canada’s sanctions; yesterday a corresponding decision came into force. And in the near future, we are preparing for Canada to synchronize our Ukrainian sanctions — the first packages will be distributed within Canadian jurisdiction,' Zelensky reported.

It should be noted that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Kyiv for an official visit for the first time on August 24. He was welcomed at the Central Railway Station by the head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha.

Ukraine will receive military assistance from Canada worth $1 billion to strengthen its defense capability. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine in the struggle for independence and freedom from Russian aggression during his visit to Kyiv. Agreements on cooperation in the field of security and sanctions have also been signed.
