Canada Slaps Sanctions on 162 Russian Entities in Fresh Blow to Moscow's Energy Sector.
Canada Unveils New Sanctions Package Against Russia
According to Espreso.tv: Canada has announced a fresh round of sanctions targeting Russia, while simultaneously discussing further support for Ukraine and condemning a Russian strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Under these new measures, Ottawa has imposed penalties on 162 individuals and organizations from the Russian Federation. The sanctions are designed to curb Moscow's energy revenues and also target disinformation networks and defense-industrial enterprises.
On June 15, a Russian attack struck the historic Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, drawing widespread international condemnation. The following day, June 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the G7 summit, where he met with French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Donald Trump. Canada's Prime Minister also highlighted his country's efforts to establish a Bank of Defense, Security, and Resilience, emphasizing the critical need for global solidarity during this challenging period.
Sanctions as a Show of Support for Ukraine
This latest sanctions package represents another step by Canada to bolster Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Targeting Russian entities signals growing international frustration with Moscow's actions, particularly its aggression against Ukraine. Canada is actively working to strengthen Ukraine's defensive capabilities, underscoring its commitment to upholding Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
