Aloe Vera for £5: How the Plant Can Help Eliminate Moisture and Mold.
According to The Sun: This year, get rid of mold in your home faster with budget-friendly solutions from B&Q.
With summer now behind us, you may have noticed that cold weather has caused condensation on the windows.
B&QCondensation occurs when warm, moist air comes into contact with a cold surface, and moisture condenses. This can lead to mold growth on walls and ceilings, threatening your health, as it causes issues like asthma and allergies.
The problem can also damage your home and furniture, so it's important to identify and eliminate the root cause promptly.
One simple solution is investing in plants that absorb moisture.
Aloe vera is a popular succulent often found in homes, not only for its beautiful green leaves.
These plants can absorb excess moisture from the air, helping to prevent condensation and mold from forming.
They are particularly beneficial in the kitchen or bathroom, where moisture accumulates the most.
B&Q offers a set of three small aloe vera plants for just £5, making each succulent only £1.60.
The Verve Aloe safari mix in a terracotta pot is very easy to care for. From November to March, they don’t need watering at all.
Simply place your aloe plant in a room where the temperature is above 14 degrees, and rotate it regularly for even growth.
Water the plant only when the soil is completely dry, and never leave it in water to avoid damaging the roots.
Plants should be repotted every two to three years in the spring using cactus or succulent soil.
Other Uses for Aloe Vera
But aloe vera is not just a mold preventer, as this plant has many other beneficial properties.
The gel from aloe leaves can be used to treat burns and accelerate wound healing.
What is Mold and How to Combat It?
Mold usually thrives in the cold months.
Olivia Young, a product development scientist at Astonish, explains the reasons behind this phenomenon.
“Unfortunately, mold is a common problem that many people face in winter. It thrives in warm and damp conditions, so it is typically most prevalent in bathrooms.
“During the cold months, most rooms in your home can be vulnerable to mold growth. This mainly occurs due to condensation building up on the windows when you turn on the radiators.
“With windows and doors closed, air has no way to circulate, so moisture cannot escape quickly. This buildup is what can lead to unpleasant mold growth, especially in bathrooms.
“If left unaddressed, it not only looks unpleasant but can pose a serious risk to your health, so it is very important to tackle it.
“The key to combating mold is to act quickly.
“Try to avoid contact with it as much as possible. So, wear gloves, tie back your hair, and begin cleaning up any signs of mold as soon as you see them.
“There are several simple solutions that can be implemented in your home to prevent mold growth. The first is to maintain ventilation. Even in the cold winter months, try to keep the bathroom window open for at least 10/15 minutes after a shower or bath. This quickly removes any excess moisture that prevents mold from accumulating.
“If you have a recurring mold issue in a certain area, it may be due to excessive humidity. You can buy a dehumidifier, which helps maintain a low humidity level and reduce the risk of mold returning.
“The golden rule to remember when it comes to mold: the sooner you can address the problem, the better. If left unchecked, the situation will only worsen, so never ignore it!
“To successfully remove mold every time, I recommend choosing the best mold removal product in the UK, which effectively eliminates mold and mildew stains almost instantly, without the need for scrubbing.”
The gel can also be used for moisturizing skin, and many people turn to it for maintaining normal digestive system function.
