The number of refugees in the EU increased by another 25 thousand in a month.

According to information received from Eurostat, the number of people with temporary protection in the European Union increased by 25.59 thousand since the end of November 2024.
It is worth noting that among Ukrainian refugees, the number of men is increasing: at the beginning of January, this figure was 23.1%, and by the end of October 2024, it was 22.7%. At the end of 2023, men accounted for 20.7% of the total, and in the spring of 2023, it was 18.8%.
As of December 31, 2024, almost 4.3 million citizens who left Ukraine due to the Russian war received temporary protection status in EU countries. The largest numbers were accepted by Germany (1.16 million people; 27.3% of the total in the EU), Poland (991.63 thousand; 23.3%), and the Czech Republic (388.63 thousand; 9.1%).
The number of people with temporary protection status decreased only in Denmark (-1,995; -5.1%), Italy (-1,310; -0.8%), and France (-595; -1.0%).
Compared to the population size of each EU country, the highest ratio of temporary protection recipients per thousand people was observed in the Czech Republic (35.7), Poland (27.1), and Estonia (25.8), while the average for the EU was 9.5 per thousand people.
As of December 31, 2024, Ukrainian citizens accounted for over 98.3% of temporary protection recipients in the EU. Adult women made up almost half (44.8%), children nearly a third (31.9%), and adult men about a quarter (23.2%).
The German government did not allow 5,935 Ukrainian citizens to enter the country during 2024, making it the largest group of foreigners that Germany did not let across the border.
There was also mention of the possibility of creating return centers for Ukrainian refugees in three EU countries.
