Kim Jong Un faced unexpected consequences from sending troops to Ukraine - Le Monde.
Ukrainian intelligence reported on the losses of North Korean soldiers in military actions against Ukraine
The French publication Le Monde has published an investigation reporting that the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, has suffered significant losses among his military in the fight against Ukraine.
According to South Korean intelligence, since October 2024, 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed in the Kursk region of Russia. Of them, 300 were killed, and 2,700 were wounded.
Le Monde reveals shocking details about the use of North Korean soldiers on the front. According to the diary of one of the wounded North Korean servicemen, they are used as 'human bait' for enemy drones.
'When a drone approaches, it can be shot down. However, often the drone is faster than two soldiers, and so they are the ones who become victims. I am ready to die to fulfill the orders of our Supreme Leader,' wrote the soldier.
The Ukrainian intelligence also reported on another way of using North Korean soldiers - as 'mine detectors'. They advance in a line, keeping three to four meters apart from each other. If a mine detonates, the soldier either dies on the spot or is finished off. North Korean military personnel are ordered to commit suicide to avoid capture.
The question remains how Kim Jong Un will explain the presence of North Korean troops in Ukraine and the losses. According to analyst Colin Tsvyarko, the North Korean leader has two options: to abandon the remains of fallen soldiers, as his grandfather did with the pilots in Syria, or to return their bodies and create a martyr's cemetery.
'In any case, to avoid problems for the families of the deceased, Kim Jong Un must compensate them or threaten to take away the advantages that military service grants, or even with forced labor camps,' the publication writes.
Despite the bravery and training of North Korean soldiers, their presence does not become an advantage for Russia in modern warfare.
Earlier, South Korean intelligence released the first details of the interrogation of captured soldiers from North Korea.
