The pocket watch of a Titanic passenger is up for auction.

The pocket watch, found among the belongings of a passenger who perished on the Titanic, may be sold at auction for up to £50,000. This was reported by Glavkom, citing the BBC.

The watch belonged to Hans Christensen Hivard, a 27-year-old second-class passenger who died along with friends during the disaster, and will be sold by his descendants. The auction will take place on April 26 in Wiltshire.

Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge noted that the watch has been in the passenger's family since his death. The watch mechanism stopped at the moment the Titanic sank on April 15, 1912.

The watch was found during the recovery of Hivard's body from the water. Other belongings were also found, such as a savings book, keys, cash, a compass, and a passport, which were returned to his brother in Denmark.

This story inspired the creation of a book in Denmark that tells the stories of Danes connected to the Titanic. The watch was also a main exhibit of an exhibition about the Scandinavian aspect of the Titanic history in Copenhagen in 2012.
