China Supplies Russia with Machinery for Hypersonic Missile Production.
Chinese Equipment Reaches Russian Arms Manufacturer
According to TSN.ua: Recent intelligence reveals that China has supplied Russia with CNC lathes and other equipment used to manufacture the "Oreshnik" hypersonic ballistic missile. This transfer, valued at a total of $10.3 billion, underscores Russia's growing reliance on Chinese technology for its military-industrial complex. The equipment was identified at the Votkinsk Plant, a key missile production facility.
The $10.3 billion total breaks down as follows:
- $3.1 billion for the machine tools;
- $4.9 billion for microchips.
This Chinese assistance comes despite a ban imposed by 39 countries, including the US and UK, on exporting 50 high-priority items to Russia. The support appears to be a direct effort by Moscow to circumvent Western sanctions and sustain its advanced weapons programs. This development highlights the deepening military-technical cooperation between Beijing and Moscow amid ongoing global tensions.
The Strategic Threat of the "Oreshnik" Missile
The "Oreshnik" missile represents a significant strategic threat, capable of striking targets in Europe in under 20 minutes. Its military significance was demonstrated in early January 2023 when Russia launched an "Oreshnik" missile against the Lviv region of Ukraine. The provision of Chinese manufacturing tools and components directly enables the continued production of such advanced weaponry.
The expanding military technology partnership between China and Russia has serious implications for international security. As Western nations tighten sanctions, Beijing's support could significantly bolster Moscow's military capabilities, a prospect causing deep concern among European and NATO countries. This cooperation signals a shift in global alliances, where nations are forming new partnerships in response to contemporary security challenges.
