China urges the US to lift tariffs and threatens reciprocal measures.
According to inkorr.com: China has urged the US to stop threatening tariff hikes and emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue to resolve trade disputes. Beijing warned that it is prepared to take corresponding measures in response to any pressure from Washington, Bloomberg reports.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced additional 100% tariffs on Chinese goods and imposed export controls on 'any critical software'. This decision was made after the threat to cancel an upcoming meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Trump's reaction came in response to measures from Beijing, including new port fees for American vessels, an antitrust investigation against Qualcomm, and restrictions on the export of rare earth metals and other materials.
Continuation of negotiations
After Trump's announcement of new tariffs and export controls, China called for peaceful negotiations, but did not rule out tough actions in response to any pressure from the US.
This situation highlights the tension in trade relations between the two countries. It is clear that both sides are trying to find ways to resolve the conflict, but the risk of escalation remains. With the prospect of new trade barriers, the future of economic cooperation looks uncertain.
