Beijing's foreign ministry emphasized that the attacks occurred while negotiations for a nuclear deal between the US and Iran were ongoing. Officials further stated that the assault and the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, constituted a severe breach of Iranian sovereignty and security.

The Aftermath of the Attacks in Iran

On February 28, a joint US-Israeli operation resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader. The strikes also confirmed the deaths of several high-ranking officials:

• Chief of Staff Abdulrahim Mousavi,
• Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh,
• Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Mohammad Pakpour,
• Secretary of the Defense Council Ali Shamkhani.
