Chery introduces a battery with a range of 1300 km: what will the new battery change.
According to Korrespondent.net: The Chinese company Chery has presented a prototype solid-state battery with a range of up to 1300 km on a single charge. According to sources from CarNewsChina, pilot production is planned to start in 2026, with full-scale production expected in 2027.
Technological Features
The development was created by specialists at the Chery Solid-State Battery Research Institute. The main technology is based on a solid electrolyte made from polymer, which is formed directly in the cell of the battery, along with a lithium and manganese enriched cathode. This provides an energy density of 600 Wh/kg, which is about twice that of the best modern lithium-ion cells from China.
Safety and Efficiency
The new battery also stands out for its high level of safety: it continues to operate even after mechanical damage, such as being punctured by a nail or drilled into, and is not subject to thermal runaway. The manufacturer assures that the battery remains functional even underwater.
Charging Speed and Sales
Although Chery has not yet disclosed details about the charging speed, it is expected that the new solid-state battery will charge significantly faster than today's LFP and NMC type cells used in most electric vehicles.
During the presentation of the new technology, Chery also announced record sales – over 2 million vehicles in a year, with 145 thousand sold in Europe, which is twice as much as last year.
It is worth noting that similar developments have also been reported by Huawei and the American startup 24M Technologies.
