2026 Technical Development Plan for Kyiv Metro

According to Novyny.live: Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has officially approved the 2026 Technical Development Program for the city's subway system. Signed on March 30, 2026, and designated as document number 56, the plan focuses on building new facilities, renovating existing infrastructure, modernizing systems, and upgrading the rolling stock.

The city budget is expected to allocate 9.9 billion hryvnias in capital investments for 2026, though only 2.1 billion hryvnias have been secured so far. An additional 6.4 billion hryvnias are planned to come from the metro company's own budget. Key projects include the long-stalled 'Lvivska Brama' station, under construction since 1991, and the completion of the European Union Avenue tunnel cover, which must be finished by December 1, 2026.

Main Program Priorities

The program's core focuses are:

  • repair and modernization
  • upgrading signaling and power supply systems
  • purchasing new train cars

Plans for 2026 also include resuming work on 'Lvivska Brama', repairing tunnels, building a launch complex at 'Kharkivska' and 'Vokzalna' stations, and extending the metro to the Troieshchyna district. This program aims to enhance and expand Kyiv's metro system in the coming years.

The approved plan is part of a broader city infrastructure strategy designed to improve transport services for Kyiv residents. The emphasis on metro investment highlights the urgent need to upgrade aging infrastructure, which could help reduce traffic congestion and boost passenger comfort. Successful implementation will require effective financial management and additional resource mobilization to ensure all planned work is completed to a high standard.
