Ukraine Could Gain Strategic Edge by Holding Out Until Spring, Says Former US Envoy.
Ukraine's Strategic Position in the Conflict with Russia
According to Novyny.live: Former US Special Presidential Envoy Keith Kellogg has stated that Ukraine could secure a strategic advantage over Russia if it maintains its defensive positions until the onset of spring. He emphasized that March and April will be decisive months, revealing the true balance of power in the conflict. This analysis comes as Western military aid remains a critical factor for Ukraine's defensive capabilities.
Speaking at the Ukraine House in Davos, Kellogg noted that Russian forces are currently exploiting frozen ground for advances on the front lines. However, he asserted that Russian casualty rates are eight times higher than those of Ukraine. Kellogg added that if Ukraine holds firm through January and February, the initiative will shift to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Situation Assessment and International Leader Support
Kellogg also stressed that Russia is no longer the formidable Soviet Union that the world once feared. This perspective was echoed by NATO and Polish leaders participating in the Davos discussion. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Polish National Security Advisor Jacek Siewiera emphasized that issues like Greenland's status cannot overshadow Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
Therefore, March could mark the beginning of the end for the Kremlin's plans, provided Ukraine withstands the pressure and holds its positions in the coming months. — Keith Kellogg
Kellogg's statements underscore the critical importance of Ukraine's strategic endurance in the ongoing war. The anticipation of March as a pivotal moment is likely influencing planning on both sides of the conflict. A successful defense could lead to a shift in the frontline balance of power, with significant implications for the conflict's future trajectory.
