Hamilton received a penalty in Singapore: Alonso furious over track limit violation.
Lewis Hamilton's troubles at the Singapore Grand Prix
According to The Sun: Lewis Hamilton suffered a drop in positions during the Singapore Grand Prix after criticism from Fernando Alonso, who expressed his displeasure via team radio.
During the race, Hamilton, competing for fifth place with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, faced mechanical problems due to a brake failure closer to the finish.
EPA F1 TVThis led to the loss of fifth place, and he lost position to teammate Charles Leclerc, ending up in seventh. Despite a large gap of 50 seconds between them, Alonso quickly caught up to Hamilton.
After the race, Alonso sharply criticized Hamilton's actions over the radio:
“I can't believe it. I mean, I can't believe it. I can't believe it. Is it safe to drive without brakes? For me, you can't drive when the car is dangerous.”
Following this statement, Hamilton was summoned for questioning by the stewards, who investigated his actions on track. He received a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits, even though he admitted he left the track due to brake issues.
The stewards announced that this was not a justified reason for going off track, and imposed the penalty.
As a result, Hamilton fell to eighth position after accounting for the penalty time.
After the race, Hamilton commented on the brake situation:
“It was a normal race. I started poorly. It was very hard to overtake, and I was stuck in position. I was catching Kimi, and then the brakes failed.”
The race concluded with a victory for his former teammate George Russell, who replicated Hamilton's famous gesture after his triumph in Singapore in 2018.
On the podium alongside the winner were Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, who reduced his deficit from championship leader Oscar Piastri to 22 points.
At the Singapore Grand Prix, Hamilton faced serious difficulties that affected his results. The real struggle with mechanical problems highlighted the challenges that drivers can experience on track and demonstrated how important it is for a team to remain calm in crisis situations. It served as a reminder that Formula 1 is not just a battle but also about managing unexpected challenges. Read also
