Zelensky and European leaders discussed security guarantees and pressure on Russia.
According to FREEДOM:
Online meeting of the leaders of Ukraine and Europe
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, participated in a coordination online meeting with the leaders of Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Denmark. This was reported by the FREEДOM television channel, referring to the president's Telegram account.
Participation of leaders
The meeting was also attended by the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, the President of Estonia, Alar Karis, and the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen. The leaders commenced negotiations from Warsaw, while Volodymyr Zelensky joined remotely.
Security guarantees
The President emphasized the importance of security guarantees, which must be based on a strong Ukrainian army. This involves long-term funding for military needs, supply of weapons, and production of armaments.
In addition, he called for increased pressure on Russia to halt its military aggression.
'Russia refused to stop the killings — they even said 'no' to President Trump. We see negative signals from Russia regarding a possible summit at the level of leaders. Honestly, we believe that Putin is still interested in continuing this war. That is why we need new strong pressure on Russia — tough sanctions and strong tariffs from both Europe and America,' said Volodymyr Zelensky.
It is noteworthy that earlier the Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken reported that Belgium does not rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine in the event of achieving peace.
This meeting is an important step in securing international support for Ukraine, as the leaders of European countries discuss not only military aspects but also strategies to strengthen economic pressure on Russia. This demonstrates the unity of European states in supporting Ukraine and emphasizes the significance of security in the region.
