Gitanas Nausėda - Lithuanian politician, economist, banker, and university lecturer. President of the Republic of Lithuania since July 12, 2019.
Place of Birth. Education. Born on May 19, 1964, in Klaipėda, Lithuania. From 1970 to 1981, he attended Secondary School No. 5 in Klaipėda. Since 1971, he sang in the children's choir 'Gintarėlis' at the music school in Klaipėda.
From 1982 to 1987, he studied at the Faculty of Economics of Vilnius University.

From 1987 to 1989, he was a doctoral student at the Faculty of Economics.
From 1987 to 2004, he was a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics of Vilnius University.
From 1990 to 1992, he completed an internship at the University of Mannheim in Germany as part of the DAAD program.
In 1993, Nausėda earned a doctorate in social sciences with a dissertation on tax policy in times of inflation and stagnation (using the example of Lithuania).

Career. From 1992 to 1993, he was a senior researcher at the Institute of Economics and Privatization.
From 1993 to 1994, he headed the Financial Markets Department of the State Prices and Competition Authority and wrote for the national Lithuanian newspaper 'Lietuvos rytas' ('Morning of Lithuania'). In 1994, he completed an internship in the Bundestag in Bonn.
From 1994 to 1996, he was the Deputy Head of the Department for the Supervision of Commercial Banks at the Bank of Lithuania.
From 1996 to 2000, he was the Director of the Monetary and Credit Department of the Bank of Lithuania. From 1998 to 2000, he was a member of the board of the Bank of Lithuania and completed an internship at the World Bank in Washington in 1998.
From 2000 to 2008, he was an advisor to the chairman of AB Vilniaus Bankas.
From 2004 to 2009, he served as an advisor to President Valdas Adamkus.
Since 2009, he has been a lecturer at the International Business School of Vilnius University.
From 2008 to 2018, he was an advisor to the President of SEB Bankas and Chief Economist of the Bank.
Political Career. In 2004, he supported the campaign of former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus.
On September 17, 2018, Gitanas Nausėda announced his candidacy for the presidential elections in Lithuania in 2019.
In the first round of the presidential elections, where he received 30.95% of the votes, he placed second and faced Ingrida Šimonytė in the decisive second round. On May 26, 2019, Nausėda won the presidential elections in Lithuania and took office on July 12, 2019.
Views. He advocates for social equality and an increase in the representation of women in politics. Nausėda supports Lithuania's tough stance against Russia and has confirmed that he will not visit Moscow until Russia returns Crimea to Ukraine.
Family. Married since 1990. His wife, Diana Nausėdienė, born in 1964, is an engineer. Their daughters are Gedailė and Ugnė.
Hobbies. Chess, reading, sports, guitar. Since 1997, he has been collecting antique books.
