Lithuania to Introduce Charge for Disposable Coffee Cups.

From May 1, new laws have come into effect in Lithuania that prohibit the free provision of disposable containers for beverages and food in cafes and coffee shops. Some establishments will include a charge for these containers in the bill to show their cost. This initiative aims to reduce waste pollution and promote conscious consumption among customers.

Café and restaurant owners state that they are ready for the changes and have prepared all the necessary information for their clients. Some will even offer discounts to those who bring their own containers or cups.

The popular gas station chain Circle K has also expressed its opinion on the new rules. According to CEO Inga Galiniene, a fee of €0.20 will be charged for each disposable container, which will be indicated in the bill. This will promote conscious consumption and the choice of ecological alternatives.

Some establishments plan to install sinks near self-service coffee machines so that customers can wash their cups before buying a new coffee.

Earlier, a protest against the planned introduction of a property tax took place in Vilnius. The protest action occurred on April 27 at Cathedral Square and was aimed against such a decision.
