People are becoming poorer, and this is a fact. Hetmancev noted that the Cabinet is not going to react.
The rising level of poverty in Ukraine raises concerns
Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Taxation, and Customs Policy Danilo Hetmancev expressed his concern about the rising level of poverty in Ukraine. According to the World Bank, the poverty level among the population increased from 5% in 2021 to 29% in 2024. This negative trend leads to changes in the consumption structure of Ukrainians, with increased spending on food and decreased spending on non-essential goods and services, capital goods, and savings. Hetmancev emphasizes that the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine is a reason for further poverty growth, and peace is necessary for the economic development of the country.
High unemployment rate and low incomes
Hetmancev also points out the high unemployment rate, which exceeds the NBU forecasts and stands at 17.7%. He also notes that the minimum wage and pension are too low, and the government does not plan to increase them. Hetmancev defined this situation as negative.
Shadow activities in the alcohol and tobacco markets
Moreover, Hetmancev expressed his concern about the alcohol, tobacco, and electronics markets, which are particularly vulnerable to shadow activities. He also reported a negative trend regarding the growth of the shadow segment in the alcohol and tobacco market after a previous successful reduction in its volume in 2024.
It should be noted that Danilo Hetmancev also stated that changes will be made to the rules for joining the 'White Business Club' due to issues arising in this club's operations.
