Statements from Alexander Lukashenko

According to TSN.ua: Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus's self-declared president, has raised the possibility of deploying the 'Oreshnik' missile if his country faces a threat from other nations. He emphasized that Belarus is making launch sites ready for these missiles, a move coordinated with him. Lukashenko clarified that he has no intention of attacking other countries but issued a stark warning:

“I’m not saying we’ll strike Vilnius, Warsaw, or Kyiv with this 'Oreshnik' tomorrow. God forbid. That’s not our goal. We need to defend our own land. To ensure the 'Oreshnik' isn’t used—stay out of our way. Whether from Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, or Latvia.” - Alexander Lukashenko

At the same time, Belarus is providing technological support to Russia for strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and civilian population. The presence of Russian missile systems on Belarusian soil has alarmed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He stated that

“the deployment of Russian missile systems in a neighboring country poses a challenge for all of Europe.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Regional Military Tensions

Russia currently has 3-4 'Oreshnik' missiles in its arsenal, heightening tensions across the region. Belarus is actively preparing for their potential use, a development that has sparked concern among neighboring states and the international community.

Lukashenko’s remarks reflect growing military strain in the area, particularly regarding Belarus’s relations with its neighbors. While the Belarusian leader denies any aggressive intent—likely an attempt to avoid further conflict escalation—the presence and positioning of 'Oreshnik' missiles represent a significant security risk for Eastern Europe. This situation underscores the need for close international monitoring of military activities in the region.
