Occupying Forces Strike Ukraine in Nighttime Barrage on March 7
According to Novyny.live: In a major overnight assault on March 7, Russian forces launched a massive attack across Ukraine, resulting in civilian casualties and significant damage to cities and infrastructure. This attack underscores the ongoing vulnerability of Ukrainian urban centers to long-range strikes.
In total, 509 aerial weapons were deployed in the attack. The invaders launched:
- 2 'Zircon' hypersonic missiles
- 13 ballistic missiles, including 'Iskander-M' and 'S-400' types
- 14 'Kalibr' cruise missiles
- 480 attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
Ukrainian air defenses demonstrated significant capability, successfully intercepting 472 of the incoming Russian targets. This included 19 missiles and 453 drones.
The human cost was severe in Kharkiv, where 8 people were killed and 15 others wounded. In response to this tragedy, March 9 has been declared a day of mourning in the city. According to the Ukrainian Air Force press service, the strikes targeted multiple regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi oblasts.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that 'these attacks on life must be met with a response from our partners.'
This large-scale assault is part of a pattern of escalating aerial bombardments that have intensified since the winter. It highlights the persistent threat Russian military actions pose to Ukraine's civilian population and critical infrastructure, and the continuous need for enhanced air defense systems from international allies.
The attack serves as another grim escalation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, now in its third year. It demonstrates the high level of danger to civilians and underscores the necessity of sustained support from international partners to ensure population security. The declaration of a day of mourning in Kharkiv reflects the deep trauma inflicted by the war and emphasizes the importance of a continued global response to the ongoing aggression.
