Massive Drone Strike Hits Odesa: Hospitals, Schools, and a Maternity Ward Among Targets.
Odesa Under Fire: Widespread Drone Attack
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of March 28, a large-scale drone assault struck Odesa, causing significant damage to medical and educational facilities and resulting in casualties. The attack involved over 100 Shahed-type kamikaze drones launched against the Odesa region, marking one of the most intense bombardments in recent weeks.
Medical infrastructure in Odesa took a heavy hit, with damage reported at:
- a diagnostic consultation center
- a day hospital unit
- a children's clinic
- a family medical practice
More than 60 windows were blown out across healthcare facilities. The maternity ward in the Prymorskyi district suffered severe structural damage. At the time of the strike, 22 women in labor, 19 newborns, and 11 staff members were inside the building.
Two people lost their lives: a 34-year-old man died at the scene, and a woman around 35 years old succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Another 12 individuals were wounded, including one young child. Seven school and university buildings were also damaged, underscoring the broad scope of destruction.
Oleh Kiper reported that 'the attack killed two people: a 34-year-old man at the scene, and a woman around 35 years old who died in the hospital.'
This assault ranks among the most severe in the area recently, highlighting the ongoing dangers faced by civilians. These tragic events once again raise urgent concerns about the safety of non-combatants in conflict zones.
The massive drone strike on Odesa serves as yet another grim reminder of the escalating conflict in Ukraine and its direct toll on civilian life. The targeting of hospitals and schools—places typically considered safe in peacetime—has drawn alarm both domestically and internationally, amplifying calls for better protection of vulnerable populations.
