Russia has changed its attack tactics: why the enemy is now targeting the western regions

According to ТСН: On December 23, 2025, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, threatening many regions, including the western areas. This direction of strikes indicates a shift in the enemy's tactics.

Former Air Force officer and deputy director of a company that specializes in the production of electronic warfare means, Anatoliy Khrapchynskyi, reported this.

The expert noted that the main strike indeed targeted the West of Ukraine, but the enemy also attempted to attack other regions.

"The enemy is trying to stretch Ukrainian air defense capabilities to distract our military," Khrapchynskyi noted.

Where the enemy is looking for weak spots

Khrapchynskyi emphasized that Ukraine is facing a significant shortage of personnel as well as means to detect and destroy aerial targets.

"Most of the munitions passed through the Kyiv region via the Chernobyl zone or through the Cherkasy region. This indicates that the enemy is looking for areas where they can pass," he explained.

The expert also added that the Russians are assisted in this by advanced drones of the 'Shahed' type, which have mesh connectivity for stable signals and cameras that allow drones to carefully avoid threats.

According to the expert, the consequences of such attacks are sharply felt by the civilian population.

"Russia acts more like terrorists than pursuing purely military objectives," the expert stressed.

Furthermore, the enemy is attempting to strike at the defense industry and critically important infrastructure facilities, continuing to search for opportunities to break through Ukrainian air defense.

Aviation expert Valerii Romanenko also noted that Russia has expanded the geography of its strikes on Ukraine, starting to use guided 'Shahed' drones more actively. According to him, while earlier drones operated according to a predetermined program, now the occupiers are trying to control them for more precise targeting.

The expert suggested that the control of such drones could be carried out from the territory of Belarus or via Starlink satellite communication.

Overall, this attack reaffirms that the confrontation continues, and the enemy is trying to utilize new technologies to achieve its military objectives. With each new strike, it becomes clear that Ukraine must improve its air defense systems and cope with new threats to protect its state and population.
