Statistics expert Ben Parker knows how to calculate odds, and his advice can help YOU win a massive prize in EuroMillions.Ben Parker is a senior statistics lecturer at Brunel University in London. He previously calculated the odds of winning on the popular show The Traitors, and now shares recommendations that can help you secure the grand prize.
EuroMillions is one of the most popular lotteries, and to succeed you need to choose winning numbers while competing with other players.
In the game, you pick five numbers from 1 to 50 and two lucky stars from 1 to 12. Alternatively, you can opt for a random selection where the numbers are chosen for you.
The jackpot today stands at £14 million. It has risen after a lucky winner from the UK took home a prize of £26 million on Friday.
The only way to increase your chances of winning is to buy more tickets, but do so only if it doesn’t threaten your budget.
Play responsibly and bet only what you can afford to lose. Set a spending limit before playing.

Never choose 'lucky' numbers
Statistically, each number has an equal probability of being drawn.
This means there are no numbers that are more likely to lead to a win.
The secret is to choose numbers that other players pick less frequently.
You don’t want to share the prize with others, so pick numbers that don’t attract attention.
“The odds of winning at EuroMillions are 140 million to one,” Ben noted. “It’s really unlikely that you’ll win, but if you do get lucky, you want to be the sole winner.”
One way to avoid competition is to choose numbers closer to the beginning of the grid, as studies show that people tend to favor the right side.
Is it worth buying more tickets?
You have to be in it to win it.
Every time you buy a ticket, your chances of winning increase.
But be careful – only spend what you can afford. Luck alone decides the outcome.
That’s why many choose to participate in syndicates where they buy a large number of tickets.
While the winnings may be shared, your chances of a big prize will increase with each ticket purchased.
Avoid 'smaller' numbers
According to Ben, a popular tactic is to choose 'favorite' numbers, which are often smaller.
“People tend to pick birthdays or the number 7 if they were born in the seventh month.”
So it’s better to avoid smaller numbers if you’re aiming for higher jackpot winning chances.
A good rule is to steer clear of numbers from 1 to 31.
Try to choose numbers from 32 to 50, as they are picked by fewer people.
How to play with numbers
Make number selection a game – involve kids, it can be a fun family activity.
EuroMillions numbers are drawn randomly.
Why not create your own lottery machine? “Take some balls with numbers and draw them randomly,” he suggests.
“If low numbers worry you, don’t include them.”
Never use ChatGPT
Many people use ChatGPT, but should you use it to pick lottery numbers?
You might think it’s a great way to choose random numbers, but Ben warns:
“Chat GPT doesn’t handle math well,” he stated. “It will select random numbers that have already been on the Internet.”
