Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today we will remember Dmytro Khomenko.

Dmytro was born and lived his entire life in Irpin. He graduated from the academic lyceum "Mriya". In the city, he was known for his active patriotic stance. Since 2014, he had been helping the military as a volunteer with all his might. In 2017, he joined the National Guard of Ukraine. He served in the ATO zone, and after the end of his contract, he worked abroad.

In the early days of the full-scale war, when many Ukrainians were leaving the country, he hurried to return to his native Irpin.

On February 27, 2022, Dmytro went to the military commissariat and began executing combat tasks in the hottest spots as a mortarman.

Dmytro had a difficult but true masculine character. He never kept silent and said to one's face what he truly thought. He was one of the most active members of our veterans' council. There was never a need to ask him for help; he always offered it himself. He was great at extinguishing p***s. So powerfully that to extinguish Dmytro's position, the orks used aviation. We will always remember you and support your family," recalled Hero Anton Holovenko, a deputy of the Irpin city council.

Khoma died on January 15, 2024. He was farewelled on January 20 in Irpin, where he was also buried.

"Today we said goodbye to Khoma, but he will forever be in our hearts. A fearless patriot, Hero, loyal friend, and honest, kind, simple person - that's how I will always remember Dmytro Khomenko," wrote Irpin's mayor Oleksandr Markushyn.

"Dmytro had a heightened sense of justice. As a veteran and volunteer, he could not simply watch as Russian invaders tried to occupy Ukraine, so in the early days of the full-scale war, he returned from abroad to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He died from a KAB, which the enemy aircraft precisely dropped on his mortar crew... We were constantly in touch and tried to assist Dmytro with his needs at the front. Our last meeting was literally a week ago, and I will always remember our warm conversations. Dmytro is forever 44 years old now. Thank you for your stance and for defending our Motherland," he added.

The defender of Ukraine is survived by his wife, three children, parents, and brother.

"Glavkom" joins in a moment of silence. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who died fighting for their Homeland. We remember those who were killed by the hands of Russian invaders, light memory candles, and bow our heads in mourning during the national moment of silence, honoring the bright memory of the citizens of Ukraine who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state: all military, civilians, and children, all who died fighting against Russian occupiers, and as a result of the enemy army's attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages.
