McDonald’s raised the price of popular burgers for points: what has changed

According to The Sun: McDonald's customers express their dissatisfaction with changes in the rewards system. Many people have noticed that more points are now required to receive a free item.

The discussion began on the Facebook page Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, where one user wrote that it now takes 5,500 points to exchange for a certain burger.

Sharing a screenshot from the rewards app, the dissatisfied customer noted:

“Maccies have changed their reward system a bit, there’s now a 5,500 points section and some things like Big Macs are now in there, whereas before they were in the 4,000 points section.”

Other users also noticed the changes and rushed to share their experiences in the comments.

“McCrispy used to be 4,000,”
- wrote one outraged visitor.
“Double cheese has gone up as well, it was 2,500,”
- added another.
“Once you get to 100,000 points they cap you and you can’t earn anymore.”
“They also go out of date and you lose them.”
“Go to Burger King, you only need 600 points for a full meal!”

A McDonald's representative told The Sun that the changes are related to the rising cost of food.

“We’re always listening to our customers, and we regularly review our rewards programme to ensure it continues to provide the value and variety customers expect from us.”

How does McDonald's rewards system work?

The MyMcDonald’s Rewards system was implemented in 2022. Customers can earn points through the app, as well as receive them during visits to restaurants or drive-thru orders. For every pound spent on the menu, 100 points are accrued.

Other changes at McDonald's

These changes follow McDonald's removal of a popular product from the menu just a few days after its addition. The new caramel McFlurry was launched on September 10, but later removed due to quality issues.

The fast-food giant confirmed that the dessert was replaced with a returning favorite - Toffee Crisp McFlurry.

The caramel McFlurry cost £2.49 and contained caramel cubes, short white chocolate biscuits, chocolate chips, and caramel sauce on vanilla ice cream. Many fans described it as “incredible” and “10/10,” praising the combination of chocolate and caramel flavors.

However, some customers complained that the caramel pieces were “quite hard”; one even noted that they broke a tooth.

“I literally just cracked my tooth on the hard fudge bits that are in the caramel McFlurry, they’re not even chewable,”
- wrote a user on Facebook.

Changes to McDonald's rewards system have sparked lively reactions among customers who love to seek out good deals. As the company continually adapts its programs, it’s important to keep an eye on the news to not miss current discounts and deals. The changes in the menu also reflect high standards for product quality that McDonald's strives to uphold while considering consumer feedback.
