Meloni on Ukraine Peace: Progress Made, but Core Territorial Issue Remains Unresolved.
Progress in Ukraine Peace Negotiations
According to UATV: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has stated that progress is being made in peace negotiations concerning Ukraine, while emphasizing the critical importance of security guarantees for Kyiv. She noted, however, that the fundamental issue of territory remains unresolved, a factor she believes complicates the achievement of a stable peace. These remarks come as Western allies continue to debate the best path toward a sustainable resolution to the conflict.
In an interview with the Sky TG24 television channel, Meloni stressed that despite the existence of a peace plan, many questions remain open.
“There is a peace plan with a significant number of issues that have been resolved on paper. Yet we are still very far from resolving the main question, namely the question of territories, which Russia continues to claim—something I believe is absolutely unjustified,” she stated.
The Complexity of the Situation in Ukraine
Meloni also expressed the view that a ceasefire in Ukraine remains a distant prospect.
“I believe, as I have said several times, that it is important not just to achieve peace, but to achieve a just peace,” the Prime Minister added.
These comments underscore the complexity of the current situation in Ukraine and the necessity for continued efforts to achieve stability in the region. The war has become Europe's most significant security crisis in decades, with global implications.
Giorgia Meloni's statements indicate that, despite some progress in peace talks, the question of Ukraine's territorial integrity remains a critical and difficult challenge. The situation in Ukraine continues to be a focal point of international attention, and further steps in negotiations could significantly impact stability not only in Ukraine but across the entire European region.
The importance of security guarantees for Ukraine, which Meloni highlighted, could form the basis for future diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability.
