Italy Offers Ukraine Security Guarantees: What Meloni's Plan Entails.
According to FREEДOM:
Italy's Proposal for Security Guarantees for Ukraine
Italy has put forward a proposal for security guarantees for Ukraine, reminiscent of NATO's Article 5. This initiative is currently being actively discussed among partners. This was announced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a conference in Rimini, as reported by FREEДОМ, citing La Repubblica.
Possibility of Reaching Peace
The head of the Italian government believes that there is finally a chance to achieve a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow. According to Meloni, the situation has changed due to a number of external and internal factors.
“Finally, after three and a half years during which Russia showed no signs of dialogue and simply demanded the capitulation of Kyiv, a glimmer of hope for a negotiation path has emerged. These glimmers of hope have become possible thanks, of course, to the initiative of the President of the United States, but even more – thanks to the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people and the united support of Europe,”
— noted the Prime Minister of Italy.
Proposal for a New Format of Guarantees
Giorgia Meloni also proposed a new format of security guarantees for Ukraine, which stipulates that allies commit to make a decision to support Kyiv within 24 hours in the event of a new military attack.
This proposal could become an important step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and raise its level of security amid ongoing aggression. Cooperation with Italy and other partners is extremely important during this challenging period when Ukraine continues to fight for its sovereign rights.
