The Need to Support Frontline Communities

According to Novyny.live: Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov has emphasized that communities near the front lines in Ukraine require systematic, long-term solutions, particularly for housing construction and business support. He made these remarks following a forum titled 'Resilience, Recovery, Development: The Vision for Frontline Communities — 2026,' which focused on the critical needs of these war-affected regions. These areas face immense pressure, requiring targeted policies to sustain their populations and economies.

Terekhov highlighted three fundamental pillars essential for community survival:

  • Energy
  • Economy
  • Security

The mayor stated that these three elements are synonymous with the word 'life.'

“Energy is life. … The economy is life. … Security is life. In the literal sense,” he noted.

Among the key initiatives discussed, Terekhov stressed the urgent need for a national program for housing construction and renovation.

“Ukrainians need a home. That is why we insist on improving mortgage accessibility and implementing effective mechanisms for social rental housing,” emphasized the Kharkiv mayor.

He also pointed to the critical importance of supporting entrepreneurs in frontline regions, arguing they should not face additional fiscal pressure.

“We insist: no pressure on businesses in combat zones! No new taxes or fees. Entrepreneurs who have stayed to work here, under air raid sirens and shelling, are not a 'budget reserve.' They are the foundation of regional resilience,” Terekhov concluded.

A Comprehensive Approach to Problem-Solving

Therefore, Mayor Terekhov advocates for a comprehensive strategy to address the challenges facing frontline communities, focusing on housing and business support as key elements for their recovery and development. His call for systemic aid reflects the prolonged nature of the conflict and the need to plan beyond immediate humanitarian relief.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov's statements underscore the necessity of a systematic approach to supporting frontline communities during wartime. Addressing housing needs and ensuring business stability can form the basis for rebuilding these heavily damaged territories. In the context of ongoing hostilities and economic strain, such initiatives are vital for retaining populations in conflict-affected regions and creating conditions for their future development.
