According to ТСН: In the United Kingdom, 2.5 billion pounds (3.3 billion dollars) have been frozen, obtained by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich after the sale of the football club Chelsea. These funds are to be used to assist Ukraine.

Comment from the President of Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelensky during a conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of making a fair decision regarding the frozen assets. He noted:

“This is two and a half billion pounds that can and must significantly aid in protecting lives and rebuilding in Ukraine after all the Russian strikes.”

Legal proceedings and legal team

It was previously reported that Abramovich involved an international team of lawyers to participate in the legal proceedings related to the frozen funds from the sale of the club. Should the UK government attempt to block these funds or file a lawsuit against him, the Russian oligarch has powerful legal support.

Currently, 2.35 billion pounds from the sale of Chelsea and 150 million pounds in interest remain frozen in the account of Fordstam Ltd., owned by Abramovich.

Dispute with the British government

The British authorities are preparing for court against Abramovich over the issue of using the funds from the sale of the club during his sanctioned status. The dispute revolves around the interpretation of the “commitment agreement”, under which the oligarch agreed to direct the money to charity to assist the victims of the war in Ukraine.

This situation highlights the complexities of international sanctions and their impact on the financial operations of major businessmen. The events surrounding Abramovich's frozen funds could have significant consequences for further assistance to Ukraine, considering the ongoing war and the need for the country's recovery.
